Gyratory Crushers

Gyratory crushers are a common type of primary compression type crusher principally used in surface crushing plants. It consists of a long spindle with attached hard steel conical grinding element. The spindle is suspended at the top by a "spider" and the bottom end is seated in an eccentric sleeve. The eccentric sleeve rotates and causes the spindle to move in a conical path within the fixed outer crushing chamber. This closing of the gap of the grinding element and the fixed surface generates the crushing action. Material that has been reduced to the desired size, falls through the opening of the gap at the bottom of the grinding element.

Continuously crushing on a full cycle this crusher is often the only choice for mines with large throughput rates (>900 tph). Gyratory's offer greater flexibility than most other crushers with respect to managing infeed rates. They are often fed directly from dump trucks, have the largest unrestricted openings and operate well in choke conditions. Grizzlies can sometimes be employed to dispense, reducing the height the materials falls into the crusher and minimizing damage to the spider.
